Used as a fuel in the home gas is normally very safe and problem free. Appollo Gas Services technicians are fully trained installers of Gas appliances, and are all too aware of the danger that can be caused by improper use of or faulty gas appliances.

The following is a brief guide to Gas Safety in the Home.

Gas has the potential to cause serious damage to health, and to endanger life. Gas leaks can lead to explosions, which could kill. Faulty gas appliances and lack of ventilation can lead to carbon monoxide poisoning, which has serious health effects. For the sake of you and your family’s health, safety and well being – be gas aware - don’t take risks.

Gas Leaks
Leaking gas is very hazardous and can cause a fire or an explosion. If you smell gas or suspect a leak, report it immediately to your gas supplier.

If you are concerned about gas leak detection follow these recommendations:

  • Turn off the gas supply at the main gas meter
  • Open all doors and windows
  • Do not switch or operate anything electrical on or off, including lights, as this could trigger an explosion
  • Do not smoke, strike matches or light candles, or use naked flames.

Carbon Monoxide - the Silent Killer

Around thirty people a year die accidentally from carbon monoxide poisoning related to gas appliances. A much larger number (over 200) suffer from the symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning. Carbon monoxide is produced by gas appliances which are badly installed, not maintained properly, or which do not have enough ventilation. It is invisible and has no smell or taste. Even small quantities can lead to a variety of serious health problems, including brain damage. This is why it is important to use a corgi certified gas installer.
